Intervention in emergency situations and natural disasters

The National Red Cross Society is the only humanitarian organization in the country that, in accordance with Law No. 39 of May 10, 2001, regarding the Red Cross Society of Moldova, has clear responsibilities as an auxiliary organization to public authorities, especially in the field of disaster prevention and response.

The Red Cross provides a prompt and effective response during disasters and crisis/emergency situations. Regardless of the magnitude or type of disaster, whether it involves earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, or droughts, the Red Cross is present on the ground to assist those affected.

How Does the Red Cross Help in Case of Disasters?

  • Immediate Assistance: The Red Cross provides emergency aid to individuals affected by disasters such as earthquakes, floods, or fires. This can include distributing food, drinking water, temporary shelters, and hygiene items.

  • First Aid: Specially trained volunteers offer first aid services to victims, ensuring necessary basic pre-medical interventions until specialized medical personnel arrive.

  • Psychosocial Support: In crisis situations, the Red Cross provides psychosocial support to those affected, helping them cope with the stress and trauma caused by the disaster.

  • Coordination and Logistic Support: The organization coordinates humanitarian aid efforts and facilitates the transportation of resources to affected areas, working closely with local authorities and other organizations.

  • Disaster Education and Preparedness: The Red Cross of Moldova organizes awareness campaigns and training sessions for communities, preparing them to respond effectively in the event of a disaster.
