Restoring family ties

Armed conflicts, natural disasters and migration tear countless families apart. These are difficult situations for family members. Uncertainty about the fate of a relative has a negative emotional impact on anyone affected by the loss of contact with their loved ones.

Through this service, the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies help people in need to support or re-establish contact with family members who have disappeared. Through this program, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement works worldwide to bring together

Potential situations:

  • A family member who is active in the military and about whom you have no information, for example because they were captured or held as a prisoner of war;
  • A family member who is a civilian and could be captured or with whom you have lost contact due to border migration;
  • Family member (civilian or military) who is deceased or presumed deceased.
  • Loss of contact due to migration.
